Encapsulation / Microencapsulation

Encapsulation technology is a process of entrapping a core material (Active substance) within a secondary material that protects it from the environment and that can deliver the active substance to a specific site.

The Core material: Specific material to be coated which can be solid, liquid or gaseous or hydrophilic or hydrophobic.

The Protective material: Act as a carrier for core active substance and it is used for its stabilization from environmental effects.

Microencapsulation involves coating an active substance with a polymetri material and forming a microencapsulated product (Microparticles, microcapsules and microspheres) having diameter between 1 to 1000 μm.

Process of Encapsulation and Microencapsulation

Why Encapsulation?

  • To enhance the stability of active substances
  • Improve solubility and thereby increase its bio-availability
  • To ensure control release action of the core at the right time and with the right amount
  • Protect sensitive substances from degradation
  • Prevent the undesirable interactions of the active substance with other ingredients
  • Convert liquid active ingredient into powder form
  • Masks unwanted taste, flavour and odour
  • Ensure dust free operation
  • Improve blending properties
  • Improve flowability
